Surface Treatment

All wood needs surface treatment and protection against sun, wind and water. Vrogum offers the following VCS-treatments:

Untreated (only American White Oak)
From nature American White Oak is extremely resistant. It means that the requirements for the surface treatment are not as big as with most other woods. Thus American White Oak can be delivered untreated. Yet, also American White Oak is to be protected against the sun's UV-rays which can be done with hardwood oil or another kind of good wood preservation.

Primer (Pine)
With this effective primer it is ensured that possible fungus spores in the wood are inactivated so that they can not cause damage to the wood later on. Before being fitted the item has to be treated with an effective, protective surface treatment.
Grey/White Base Coat
After the above primer a grey/white base coat follows protecting end grains and joints. Moreover the wood is treated with a knotting to minimise and to avoid yellowing of the knots. Finally an extra base coat is added ensuring a good layer thickness and a good foundation before the end treatment is added. The item has to be painted with a quality window paint before fitting.
End Treatment
Finally you can choose to have your item end treated. Before the end treatment the two above treatments are carried out, and after that filling and second scraping. Subsequently the item is painted with a strong waterbased acrylic paint ensuring a good layer thickness - also on joints and weak spots. The result is an effective wood preservation in paint or stain colours lasting for years.
